In the new Intercommunal Centre within the Ledra Palace Hotel grounds, yesterday, we hosted a significant panel discussion on the critical issue of forced migration in Cyprus. A topic further complicated by the island’s historical and political divisions. The discussion centered on a recent PRIO Cyprus Centre policy brief, co-authored by Bart Klem (University of Gothenburg) and Emmanuel Achiri (European Network Against Racism, Brussels).
The brief explores both the legal and political dimensions of migration, shedding light on how migration policies interact with the unique context of Cyprus. The panel, introduced and organised by Mete Hatay, included both authors and was chaired by Nasia Hadjigeorgiou from PCC. Nasia is known for her work on transitional justice and human rights, making her a fitting choice to lead this discussion.
If you're interested in diving deeper into their ongoing research, it might be useful to follow up with PRIO Cyprus Centre's publication.
