The failed negotiation process and subsequent pandemic closures in Cyprus resulted in an atmosphere that is not conducive to a renewed peace process. Public opinion on both sides of the island has become more divisive, while politicians have become more vocal in expressing intransigent positions. The long period of border closure during the pandemic period stalled bicommunal activism, and there seems now little motivation to find a way forward. Closely connected to the Conversations across the Divide project but here without collaboration with the FES, this project brings together former politicians, journalists, civil society activists, and other opinion shapers from Cyprus, Greece, and Turkey for discussions of how to create rapprochement in this highly divisive context. Meetings discuss how to increase engagement, and how to further a normalisation of relations between the two sides, as well as between Turkey and Greece.
